Would you wear a bright dress like this to the office?

I clearly did just that last week, but I have to admit, I garnered a few strange looks and felt a wee bit overdressed. I hate that feeling.....but it is often the case in my conservative office setting, and rarely bothers me.

Eventually, I caved though and threw on some flats to tone it down a bit, but even then I was left with a bit of a sour taste in my mouth- why should I tone down these fabulous heels or this fabulous look? I was happy when I left the house that morning.

Oh Boston, how I wish you would just dress up sometimes and make it easier on us fashionistas.

Have you ever had this feeling? Or stifled your style for a big meeting in the office? The lovely Najeema of A Stylized Hysteria wrote recently on just this topic, to brilliant effect. Check out her post here. Her prose, supervisor, and fashion sense leave me in awe and this was exactly what I needed to read after my own experience.

On a slightly related note, makes me sad to hear another wonderful, local boutique is shuttering its doors in this city- Stel's. Always ahead of its time with designers, always stocked with the best, perhaps a little too ahead of thier time for this often stodgy city. I will cherish the wonderul items I purchased there over the years- APC denim, APC everything, a fabulous Alexander Wang dress at 75% off, the list goes on and on. You will be missed! Probably not by my husband, but definitely by me.
