For my final project with Nordstrom, they asked me to write up a guide to all things hip, tasty and fabulous about my favourite local hangout, Harvard Square.
Harvard gets a bad rap sometimes for being on "that side" of the river, but let me assure you, the dining scene is vibrant, I would argue surpassing downtown right now, the shopping is inspired, and the special je ne sais quoi that is a square situated in the midst of one of the most erudite and celebrated universities in our country, Harvard.
I have lived in and around Harvard for the last 10 years. I have grown with it, from a cocktail waitress in college at the Hong Kong (oh yes people, I know the secret to the scorpion bowls there), to a retail/denim associate at a high end denim retailer (Natalie Portman and Zoe Saldana among the Harvard students I outfitted with jeans), and finally as a professional, with my husband's offices located in the landmark Brattle building.
First, let's tackle the tastiest topic- where to dine in the square.
Money no object: Craigie on Main
Middle of the road but still want a solid meal: Ten Tables
Budget friendly: Charlie's Kitchen
And since I am a HS loyalist, I have to give shout outs to Pinnochios Pizza, Grendel's Den, and the shakes and burgers at Mr. Bartley's.
Where to stop by for some local flavor.
Cardullo's: a destination for foodies and sweetooth's alike with imported food and candy from around the world.
The Colonial Drug: not your average drug store, this place stocks rare and hard to find perfumes and cosmetics from all over the globe.
L.A Burdick's: not to be missed at this chocolate shop? Some truffle mice and one of their hot chocolates, simply decadent!
Seasonal must see and do!
Hasty Pudding annual awards and parade
And finally, the most important question of all, what to wear for a day exploring Boston's sister city? I scoured the latest fashionable offerings from Nordstrom to put together a signature Cantabrigian look for your outing. The key to patrolling the city cobblestones and keep you on your toes New England weather? Sensible yet stylish shoes, and layers, layers, layers.
