Another trend worth watching and investing in this season? Pop art! From handbags, tailored pieces, and jewelry, it is a fun way to make a statement with your fall wardrobe.
Tune into this trend with the upcoming Skinner Fine Jewelry sale, September 11, which features sculptural gems and jewelry from the estate of Joan Sonnabend.
Sonnabend was a pioneer of the jewelry as art movement, opening her gallery at the Plaza Hotel in New York in 1973. She sold works by Picasso, Man Ray and Calder, forging relationships with the many artists who sought her out over the years. In the same year, the ICA held an exhibit titled "Jewelry as Sculpture as Jewelry", which followed this new movement to elevate jewelry as art. Art that could be worn daily, rather than merely hung on a wall.
