Hermes X Comme des Garcons Collab

Image: WSJ

This definitely isn't your typical Target collab. It's a high caliber, luxe to the max, take no prisoners designer collaboration between Hermes and Rei Kawakubo, the designer behind the Japanese brand Comme des Garcons.

Parisian luxury house meets Tokyo- the collection is about "the magic [that comes] from an unexpected meeting," Bali Barret, women's artistic director for Hermès. "It is a moment of grace."

Grace, synergy, graffiti, silk, bombastic design, call it what you want, I think it's fabulous. And fleeting. The Comme des Carres collection features a total of 11 scarves. A set of five black and white versions, available in Comme des Garcons stores February 7 (photos here, via Refinery 29), as well as six color versions, will be available online, starting February 6 at Dover Street Market.

Get them while you can, and if your wallet can handle the typical Hermes price points of course, $493 to $2,076......

In other Hermes news, some interesting tidbits (from a recent Harper's Bazaar):

1. The length of thread necessary to make 1,000 Hermès carrés (scarves) is equal to the distance between the earth and the moon. One silk moth yields one scarf.

2. The Kelly bag is made with 36 pieces of leather and 680 hand stitches.

3. A silk colorist works with a chart of 75,000 hues to create new color schemes each season.

4. The leather ateliers receive more than 600,000 skins per year. Each skin has a bar code to keep track of its origin and specific treatment.

5. Hermès's start in fine jewelry came from working with silver to trim saddlery—the house's first clients were horses, of course!
