Nantucket Essentials for a Successful Family Trip

It's the Hamptons of New England.....chic, exclusive, and perfectly chic and FUN for your family. Here's what we pack, plan, and do in order to make sure we have the perfect trip year after year. From booking the ferry to booking a nanny service, we've done it. All tried (by us), true, and essential for a successful family trip.

First and foremost, become comfortable with a sitter. Or a sitter service that carefully vets their staff....much as Sensible Sitters does. It's available in select cities, the Hamptons and Nantucket. We have used it and loved it. They put as much care into their sitters as we do. So you can enjoy a meal out at Dune, Oran More or Cru.

Proper, beachy attire is required. I love to stock up at Roberta Roller Rabbit for everyone. Mom and mini matching tunics, quilts to spread in the sand, onesies for my son and sporty trunks for my husband. Done and done.

Keep your littles sheltered from the sun and the wind (which can get quite strong on some of the beaches) with this sporty number from Coleman. It's a cinch to pack, unpack, and is light enough to carry back and forth from the car to the sand with out a second thought.

Getting your car on the island can be notoriously hard to do with limited ferry service. So plan to get around via bike (rental options abound) or bring along your own wheels. We just invested in a family set of bikes, with the Electra Townie for me. I can't wait to test it out and properly accessorize with basket.

Don't forget the kids who are too small to ride a bike on their own. My husband will be towing this sweet ride (A Thule Bike Tow) with our toddler and babe tucked inside, along with toys, snacks, and everything else they could possibly ever need for the ride to Something Natural for lunch.

There is an essential truth in life and parenthood......the more children you have, the more beach gear you need. This extra large tote from Lands End should definitely get you to the sand with everything you need on foot. If you need more than this bag holds, the next step is a wagon!

Next up on my list of things to do on the island with the kids? Surf school. These starter boards from Greco are highly rated and start at a great price point.
