Tory Burch Spring 2013 From Runway to My Closet

 photo toryspring_zps65bc23e9.jpg

The new Tory Burch Spring 2013 collection has definitely caught my eye. Hippie chic, it is just begging for a tropical holiday....to Tulum.

The emroiderey, pattern, bright hues entwined with linen, tie die, and the gowns, from her runway straight to her website, loved it then, and love it now.

Here are the items at the top of my shopping list for spring.

1. Mini Tassel Rosary Necklace

2. Katie Fisherman Bag

3. Gatlin Sweater

4. Puka Strand Necklace

NYFW Discovery: Veronica Beard Fall 2013 & Viola Lovely Trunk Show

Veronica Beard, new for me, unexpected, and such an utterly happy New York Fashion week discovery this February.

The brand is helmed by two Veronica's, of the sister in law variety, Veronica Miele Beard and Veronica Swanson Beard. Between them, this glam duo have a shared background in finance, seven children, and one fabulous fashion line. Initially launched with "The Jacket" in 2010, Veronica Beard has grown into a full fledged sportswear line, mixing luxury, statement making separates, while staying true to the basis for the line, classics such as the jacket.

Staged at Bill's Food and Drink, the presentation was part reveal of the new fall 2013 collection, part fabulous society party. Print, fur, tweed and gold velvet mingled with press, fashion mavens, and socialites. Inspired by the American West, the collection ranged from coonskin caps, Western plaid shirts, and leather jump suits to glam deco dresses and gold leather trenches. This is an American west I would gladly hitch up my wagon to explore.

Locally, you can find Veronica Beard at Viola Lovely who just happens to be hosting a trunk show in their Wenham locale on Wednesday March 13th! Serendipitous timing.

Black on Black

Above: Zara dress and moto jacket, Qi fur vest, Lululemon leggings, Hannah Blount earrings, Jerome Dreyfuss Carlos tote, Stuart Weitzman boots, Celine sunglasses, Hermes bracelets

All black, on black, layered on, well, black- not a look you will often find me wearing. This southwestern inspired moto jacket saves it from being too severe, no?

My new trick to get around wearing my same winter jackets again and again, pair a lighter jacket with this fur Qi vest. It is crazy warm and looks great over just about everything.

I am impressed with Zara's bump friendly offerings, full of flowy tunics, skirts, and boxy shapes, perfect for keeping a mini-bump disguised and comfortable. I bought a few sizes up than normal to make sure I can grow into them a bit and satisfied that I'll have some trendy items to transition out of pregnancy with too. I just picked up a few more items from their spring line, including a fabulous maxi I can't wait to lounge around in.

Where have you been shopping this spring? If you see any chic maxis or muumuus be sure to let me know!

Sweet & Savory Scones

 photo IMG_6688_zpsd58cf292copy_zps8bb00474.jpg

I love the zesty, savory, flavor profiles of ginger with....just about anything. Soda, cocktails, syrup, candies, all of the above. In this particular recipe and case, ginger is combined with cherries for a delightful scone.

I loosely followed this Bon Appetit recipe (here). Substituted dried cherries for frozen, white flour for rye (I mean, who has this on hand? Does anyone know what this is?), and added a few tablespoons of cold diced butter when kneading the dough, because that is just classic crumbly scone right there. So yeah, I was a little liberal with my changes, which can be risqué when baking, but the final verdict was still delicious.

Served warm with butter and jam, husband and I were eating these for days. Stick to your ribs, hearty AM breakfast for a cold and dreary winter, just what the doctor ordered. Until spring saves us all.

NYFW: Tadashi Shoji Fall/Winter Runway Show 2013

Tadashi Shoji, ever the treat! Confectionary gowns, runway glamour, over the top femininity.

This years collection tells the tale of "exiled nobility, inspired by the splendor of the Russian Empire".  Shoji, who often pulls from his travels, drew inspiration this season from a cross country tour of Russia, its royalty, clergy, landmarks and cities.  Beginning in the city of St. Petersburg, to its Winter Palace, then off to Siberia, where the exiled royalty fled in peasants clothes- revel in the winter crystal embellished accents, rich silks, velvets, and heavily embroidered lace of the gowns.

Boiled down to a sentence, think Dr. Zhivago X Anastasia, meets Oscar red carpet.

Now, on to the music! This year's soundtrack was a lot less hit driven and a lot more moody & melodic.

Bat for Lashes, Winter Fields

Elton vs. Pnau, Sixty

Atoms for Peace, Judge Jury and Executioner
